A Kilometro for Health 2007

The event “A Kilometer for Health FOR THE DREAM OF FATHER CAROLLO” took place on Sunday, May 6th, 2007, with the goal of displaying the work of the Tierra Nueva Foundation to the people in the south of Quito; an objective that was achieved successfully. The event managed to gather almost 30,000 people in the 1km long park located in the south of the city, and in addition, a public fundraise was done for the construction of the Hospital “Un Canto a la Vida Padre José Carollo.”

The national TV station Teleamazonas gave us a hand by sponsoring the event and with helping to promote and broadcast to the community through it news program, and with promotional space during its regular programming for 15 days prior to the event.

A main attraction was the making of the world’s largest SANDWICH, which stretched along the Av. Cardenal de la Torre. For this, we counted on the dedicated participation of the school Gastronomía Alberto, which gathered its students to make a one kilometer long sandwich that we sold in 10,000 pieces with a cost of ONE DOLLAR for each piece. The proceeds were added as a part of the public fundraising.

The event also staged several internationally famous Ecuadorian artists who because of solidarity participated at no charge and helped motivated the public to contribute to the cause.

We should acknowledge the work done by the group of volunteers that were in charge of fundraising in several commercial centers in Quito during the event.
